541 bags in 19 days!

Hi everyone,

I can’t even believe I’m saying this, but we have officially broken our 2016 record! In just 19 days, our #bundleupyeg team has collected and delivered 541 bags of warm winter clothing to Edmonton homeless shelters.

This is by far our busiest season yet. To put things in perspective, last year we collected and delivered 510 bags of clothing in the entire two months of our campaign.

AMAZING! First and foremost, thank you to everyone who is donating, supporting us and spreading the word about our service. Without you, we couldn’t do what we do in helping to keep Edmonton’s homeless community warm. All of you are the backbone of #bundleupyeg. Let’s keep those donations rolling in until December 18.

Here’s a breakdown by numbers of our campaign so far since opening on November 1:

  • 541 bags collected and delivered to local Edmonton homeless shelters (Bissell Centre, Hope Mission, Mustard Seed and Boyle Street);
  • 120 trips to pickup clothing donations from homes, businesses and our collection boxes at 102.3 Now! Radio, Print Machine (Whyte Avenue), Local Public Eatery South Common, The Nook Cafe’ and Kingsway Mall (as of Nov.25);
  • 29 deliveries/trips to homeless shelters;
  • 28 days to go!

For the first time this year, we drastically expanded our team beyond just myself, my husband Ryan and my parents Bill and Maria to recruit a team of 13 total volunteers. All of us do this work in our spare time and on our own dime as we are not an official charity — just Edmontonians who love to help. Without our team of volunteers there is no way we could handle this capacity so without them, this truly wouldn’t be possible.

Huge thanks out to our amazing collection box hosts who have been bringing in tons of donations. Thank you for allowing us space in your businesses and extra foot traffic to bring in those warm clothing donations — you allow us to collect even more clothes, faster.

Thank you to the many countless businesses and people who are running their own drives for #bundleupyeg and collecting from friends, family and colleagues. You are all superstars in our eyes! Here’s a look at some of the wonderful folks who have donated recently:

Now that we have already reached last year’s total, what do you think our goal for 2017 should be? 800 bags? 1,000? I can’t wait to see how much more we can do together!

Follow us on Instagram for more timely and frequent updates on the campaign. If you have any spare clothing lying around, email us at bundleupyeg@gmail.com to arrange a time for our team to swing by and collect it for you, free of charge.

Thanks everyone! Sending you so much love.
