#bundleupyeg is back for 2015!

By Jasmine Franklin, Founder of #bundleupyeg

Happy fall everyone!  I hope this summer was kind to you and you’re prepared for the cold months ahead. Speaking of cold…for the third consecutive year, #bundleupyeg is back and I’m doing things a little bit differently this time around!

But first, what is #bundleupyeg?

For those of you who don’t know, #bundleupyeg is a grassroots initiative I started in 2013 to collect warm winter clothing donations and deliver them to homeless shelters and homeless support organizations across Edmonton. The goal of #bundleupyeg is to make donating easy. It’s simple: you pack the donations, and I — with the help of amazing family and friends — pick them up, free of charge.

I am not financially sponsored by anyone and I do not collect any money for this campaign. I do it in my spare time throughout the winter months with help from family and friends (I can’t stress this point enough).

Last year (2014), the campaign grew drastically and resulted in the collection of 160 bags of warm clothing donations thanks to media coverage and collaboration opportunities like the #bundleoflove workshop and acquiring official donation drop-off locations including 102.3 Now! Radio and Cory Christopher design studios.

What will #bundleupyeg look like in 2015?

This year, #bundleupyeg will run for a longer period of time kicking off on Saturday, Oct. 3 and ending on Monday, Dec. 28.

While I will continue to drive door-to-door collecting donations this year, there will be more donation drop-off locations provided for anyone wanting to donate on their own time. By providing more drop-off locations, I’m hoping to maximize the amount of clothing we can collect and donate in 2015. I will routinely empty the donation boxes and deliver all donations to shelters within Edmonton.
